During my time in the fitness industry, many of us want to look better, be in shape, be fitter or healthier. And we normally want to do this by the summer time.
The trend is that when the weather starts to get hotter, around April or May time, we start to exercise more regularly. Why do we do this?
We put on weight during the winter from Sept to March and need to shift it
We feel uncomfortable and the scales aren't helping every time you step on
You know that beach weather is coming and you’ll be swapping winter layers for summer shorts
We feel the need to make up for the nights in on the couch watching Netflix when it was cold outside and want to get more active
Most people go into hibernation in the winter. Imagine what you would look like, how you would feel, what shape you would be in if you exercised all year round, instead of just part of the year. Imagine the results you would get.
In my previous articles, I have written about training and nutrition tips, to help you achieve you goals. Even to this day, some of my clients leave it too late to get started or didn’t realise that changing the body takes time. It’s not an overnight process and there is no quick fix or magic formula. One big mistake we make, in society, is that we don’t give ourselves enough time to create our masterpiece.
Wouldn't it be better to under promise then over deliver? Instead, we get caught up in others things which distract us, we end up over promising and under delivering to ourselves. We end up making little changes instead of big changes. Ultimately, if we don’t get the results we want, we lose motivation. Even if we have changed shape for the better, improved our fitness, become a lot more healthier…this can still leave us unhappy with our body.
The best advice I can give you this winter is this…train as if you are training for a winter holiday. A sunshine getaway where you need to look your best. I’m not saying you need to exercise every day and just eat the chicken and broccoli diet (if you choose that, that’s fine) I’m saying you need to be active all year round so that your starting point is closer to your finishing point. Monitor you nutrition and exercise weekly. Each week try to beat the previous week so you are constantly setting new standards to progress and achieve. Another tip is to try on your bikini or swim shorts in the winter. If you’re unhappy with what you see, this will motivate you to do something about it.
So when you think about it…Summer bodies can be made and should be made in the winter months. If you are able to exercise in the winter, I’m sure you will be in much better shape next year when the real summer comes. Try it, what have you got to lose? Give yourself 12 months instead of 6 months to achieve your goal.

It was great to be a part of the Worldwide Movement as Adidas and Parley come together to reduce plastic pollution.
The Adidas Ultraboost Parley trainer is made up of 10 plastic bottles. Even Manchester United's kit for the 2018/19 season is made from parley, plastic from the Ocean.
It makes you think how important recycling can be to save the world we live in.
Despite the 4.30am alarm on a Friday morning (which is the weekend here in Dubai) it was a great turnout. Amongst those running, was the DanceFM radio station 97.8FM, who swapped their R's around, from Radio to Running.
In a bid to encourage participation and raise awareness for Adidas X Parley...
For every 1km ran, Adidas would donate 1 dollar. This would then be used to recycle plastic from the Ocean so it can be used more productively and not left on the bed of the Ocean, killing many fish who ingest it.
People of all ages, cultures and abilities came together for this great cause. Pictured above with me is Sam from Kenya.
Well done to all that took part and to those who organised.
